Bruce Horan is a Connecticut-based artist specializing in painting and printmaking. He earned his Master of Fine Arts degree from Pratt Institute and exhibits both regionally and nationally. Bruce also holds a certification in graphic design from the Shillington School of Graphic Design and has built a sole proprietorship focused on the production of fine art prints, design materials, and related creative projects. His experience spans both artistic creation and the practical processes involved in preparing, producing, organizing, and presenting visual material.

His artwork blends abstraction with landscape painting, creating vibrant and often whimsical scenes that distill the complexity of the natural and built environment into elemental shapes and forms.

In addition to his studio practice, Bruce has a strong interest in photography, music, collecting, and the preservation of creative work. He creates, curates, and maintains an extensive body of his own artwork while also collecting the work of other artists. He is currently a steward of the Mike Thut Photo Archive, a fifty-year photographic record encompassing music, culture, community, and history.

Bruce also brings professional experience in scientific curation and archiving. He worked as a curatorial scientist for the National Science Foundation’s International Ocean Discovery Program through both Texas A&M University and Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory. In those roles, he helped archive, curate, organize, and maintain large collections of scientific materials.

Together, these experiences give Bruce an unusual combination of fine-art practice, printmaking, painting, design, collecting, photography, and professional archival experience — a background particularly well suited to the preservation, organization, interpretation, and creative activation of the Mike Thut Photo Archive.
